Our expert advice for planning your trip

The best time to visit Morocco is generally in the spring (March to May) or fall (September to November) when the weather is mild and pleasant.

Visit Marrakech for its souks and ancient medina; explore the Sahara Desert with a camel trek; discover Fès with its impressive medina and tanneries; hike in the Atlas Mountains; admire the architecture of the Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca; relax on the beaches of Essaouira; and enjoy the rich flavors of local cuisine.

    • Transport
The country has a diverse transportation network, including buses, trains, and taxis. Trains are modern and comfortable, especially for traveling between major cities. In rural areas, shared taxis known as 'grand taxis'are commonly used.

    • Language
The official language is Arabic, but French is widely spoken, particularly in business and tourism. Several Berber dialects are also used in rural areas.

    • Alcohol Rules
While alcohol is available in large cities and tourist hotels, consumption is more discreet in more traditional areas. It is sold in certain specialized shops and bars, but public consumption laws can be strict.

    • Card Payment
Using a credit card is common in tourist areas and large cities, although it is still useful to have cash for small businesses and local markets.

    • Light and breathable clothing suitable for hot temperatures
    • Hat and sunglasses to protect from intense sun
    • Sunscreen, high factor sun protection
    • Modest clothing for visiting religious and cultural sites
    • Scarf or shawl to cover shoulders in certain places
    • Basic first aid kit
    • Adapter for electrical outlets
    • Comfortable walking shoes
    • French-Arabic phrasebook or translation apps
